Do You! 12 Laws to Access the Power in You
to Achieve Happiness & Success
-by Russell Simmons
Yes,
a book review ... no, it's not off-topic ... passing on ways for
others to achieve success is a perfect Teed post -we're helpful
like that :)
First, put away your opinions on Russell
Simmons, hip-hop, and any other ignorant views you may have when
you look at the cover ...
Do You!
is by far the most inspirational and motivational self help books
I have ever come across ... period.
Oh, and Russell's book is written like he
talks ... with some cursing, lack of sugar-coating, his spiritual
beliefs, and health views ... deal with it -- it's a great read
...
Being a print-junkie, I have read lots
and lots of motivational, business, and inspirational books ...
when
everyone
got chubbies over that book
The Secret, I yawned because it
was sooo vague ... but
Russell's
Do You!
is filled with cool stories, personal experiences "warts and all",
and it's relevant to real life ... my favorite parts are about
ignoring the people who try to knock you down, pushing past
obstacles, and living with authenticity ...
He
states over and over that nothing he writes is new, and he's
correct ... but! it's wonderful how he puts all the old advice
together ... it just 'clicks' and seems do'able -now! ... it
doesn't leave you with the usual self-help book thoughts of, "...I
can't wait until I get 'there' so I can do 'that'." and you never
feel guilty over past errors ... another cool tidbit is, Russell
was going thru a divorce while writing this book, and he didn't
dog her, not even a little bit ... in fact, he spoke with respect
about
Kimora --kudos to Simmons for
being classy!
I've recommended it to a few people, all
glowing reviews ... but a couple months ago, a gal came into the
building of my side-gig ... she asked permission to wait inside
until her ride arrived, stating it would be about an hour ... she
looked so defeated ... not having any magazines to offer, I pulled
Do You!
out of my bag ... at the time, I thought she was just paging
through it in a bored, better-than-nothing kind of way ... well
... she just showed-up to personally
thank me for giving her that book, and she's reading it for the
third time ... she says when she walked up to me that day, she was
praying for someone to help her change all the messed-up things in
her life ... she had hit rock bottom, saw no way out, and then
I handed her that book ... she says that I was doing God's work
... too cute ...
Hope it helps you with your junk too,
---Kimberly
